Major Traffic Disruptions Hit Merced County
Merced, CA (August 24, 2026) — Motorists traveling through Merced County should expect traffic controls and ramp closures this week as Caltrans conducts construction and maintenance work on State Routes 59, 99 and 165.
According to the California Department of Transportation, the scheduled work includes grinding, paving, striping and utility operations from Monday, Aug. 24, through Friday, Aug. 28.
Caltrans said motorists should expect delays of approximately five to 10 minutes and use alternate routes whenever possible.
State Route 59
One-way traffic control is scheduled in both directions on SR-59 from Lincoln Road to Furtado Road on Wednesday, Aug. 26, from 6:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. for grinding and paving operations.
One-way traffic control is also scheduled in both directions from 12th Street to southbound SR-99 on Friday, Aug. 28, from 7 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. for grinding.
State Route 99
Several ramp closures are scheduled along SR-99 during the week.
The southbound SR-99 on-ramp at Mission Avenue is scheduled for overnight closure through Friday, Aug. 28, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. for striping operations.
On Friday, Aug. 28, the southbound SR-99 off-ramp to eastbound SR-140 and the southbound SR-99 on-ramp at the G Street underpass are scheduled to close from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. for grinding operations.
The northbound SR-99 on-ramp at SR-59/MLK Jr. Way is scheduled for overnight closure through Friday from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. for striping. The southbound SR-99 on-ramp at SR-59/MLK Jr. Way is scheduled for overnight closure Monday through Friday during the same hours.
The southbound SR-99 off-ramp at the 16th Street undercrossing is scheduled for overnight closure through Friday from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. for striping.
The southbound SR-99 on-ramp at Westside Boulevard is scheduled to close Thursday, Aug. 27, from 6:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. for paving.
At Winton Parkway, the SR-99 on- and off-ramps are scheduled for overnight closures through Friday from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. for striping.
Additional overnight closures scheduled through Friday from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. include the southbound SR-99 on-ramp at Collier Road; the northbound on- and off-ramps and southbound on-ramp at Shanks Road; the southbound off-ramp at Bradbury Road; the northbound on-ramp at Bradbury Road; and the northbound off-ramp at the South Turlock overpass/Golden State Boulevard.
State Route 165
One-way traffic control is scheduled in both directions on SR-165 from the California Aqueduct Bridge to Cotton Gin Road on Monday, Aug. 24, and Tuesday, Aug. 25, from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. for grinding and paving operations.
Overnight one-way traffic control is also scheduled in both directions at Crane Avenue through Friday, Aug. 28, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. for utility work.
Caltrans said the scheduled work is subject to change because of traffic incidents, weather, equipment availability or construction-related issues.
For the safety of workers and other motorists, Caltrans urged drivers to “Be Work Zone Alert.”
